2020 Website Report

On the Homepage and website we:

We uploaded a significant amount of new material to the website during the year, including:

  • Re-released Season 1 of our very popular Aftermath Radio Podcasts
  • The Foundation’s 2019 Annual report

We have a team of volunteers who search the scientific literature on psychopathy and find those articles that have relevance to the victim community.  They then summarize these articles in user-friendly language for our visitors. This past year we uploaded 8 research summaries.

We developed a New Resources category called ”Through the eyes of survivors: Tips for recovery.”  Here we will post tips from volunteers who have had relationships with someone with psychopathic features and the things that helped them deal with the aftermath. In 2020, the first post on suffering was published.

We have had great success attracting visits from foreign-language speakers from around the world.  To continue this outreach, we have made some improvements, including:

  • New translations were added in Spanish, Polish, and Dutch
  • We reviewed and fixed some minor translation issues on the website

For Our Members…

We were very pleased to announce the inauguration of our Members Page!  This program was launched with the assistance of Matt and Paula from our Website Committee.  Here we will post material that is accessible only to those who have a membership (at the Regular, Silver or Gold level).  This year we posted the following:

  • Josanne summarized the article:  “The empathic brain of psychopaths: From social science to neuroscience in empathy”. A copy of the article itself (with the author’s permission) was also uploaded to the Members page.
  • Josanne summarized the article: “Psychopathy and aggression: The role of emotion dysregulation”.
  • Nicola and Jamie summarized the article: “Psychopaths online: The linguistic traces of psychopathic individuals in email, text messaging and Facebook”.

Behind the scenes…

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
After doing much research, we created a “meta tag list” to be used to improve our presence on Internet search engines.  In addition, notes on things we can do to improve our SEO standing overall were developed and distributed to our contributors.

Technical Issues

We renewed the Aftermathradio.com domain name for two more years. We installed an update for the translation plug-in with improved functionality to bring it in line with other website upgrades we do routinely. We constantly review the links on our website for inconsistencies and glitches that occasionally surface (for example, a site we once linked to no longer exists).

Timely Notices…

We regularly post notices to keep our visitors apprised of our activities.  Here are just a few:

  • A Thank You was posted for everyone who contributed to our Kickstarter campaign, which provided funds for our soon-to-be announced online courses.
  • Open Call for Graduate Student and Media Awards Nominations
  • We announced a list of openings for volunteers in a variety of areas
  • Giving Tuesday raffle (Membership drive) information was put on the homepage
  • A Thank You to our donors for helping us raise $1,239 during our Annual Membership Drive [Giving Tuesday] Raffle
