2018 Website Report

On the Homepage and website…

…we made slight revisions to the wording of our Mission and Vision statements to make them consistent with the wording in our Aftermath Foundation documentation.

…a link was created to the 2015 Annual Report as well as our 2016-2017 Report.

…a link to the video Tips for those who may be in relationships with a psychopathic partner featuring Dr. David Kosson, president was added. This short informative video is one in a growing list of video resources we are producing for our Members. It was written by David Kosson and Alison Marshall-Rath, and filmed and edited by Dr. Rhonda Freeman.

… a research summary of the article: Relationship between Psychopathic Traits, Sexual Fantasy and Real-Life Sexual Behavior was posted.

…three books have been approved for addition to the Store: Toxic No More, by Amanda Smith; The Illusionist: My Love Affair With a Sociopath, by Ivonne Montijo; and, Entangled, by Florence St. John. They will be uploaded once we have completed our integration of our Store’s new management software.

…the Foundation’s Graduate Student Research Award was awarded to Mary Ritchie and Courtney Humeney and featured on the website. Mary has since joined the Aftermath Foundation Board of Directors as Co-Treasurer.

…“Ask the Expert” is one of our most popular features and during 2018 we uploaded question-and-answer responses from the following psychopathy experts: Dr. Essi Viding, Dr. Mark Olver, Dr. Eva Kimonis, and Dr. Randall Salekin.

…two calls for Members and visitors to participate in online research projects were posted. This is directly related to our Mission of supporting research about the impact of psychopathy on victims and targets.

Behind the scenes…

…we made some important improvements to our website, including the addition of Google Analytics for the main website as well as the Forums. This tool allows us to review traffic to our site on a regular basis, the results of which are discussed with the Board of Directors at each quarterly Board meeting.

…we are also working with a volunteer web developer to build out our new Membership section which will offer enhanced access to material for those joining at the Silver or Gold levels. We assessed the capabilities of a couple of software plugins to manage the process and have recently identified the program with the best functionality. As part of this project, we developed a new Donations page for those who wish to contribute to the Foundation but do not wish to become members. Work continues now to fully integrate these sections into our existing website.

…we enhanced the security of our site and brought it in line with current SSL Certification requirements. Visitors will notice that the url in the upper left field of their browsers now reads “https” (the “s” signifies that we are now a secure site, similar to many financial institutions). If your browser does not show this designation, edit it to read https and then save it again as a bookmark.

Timely notices: We occasionally use “popups” to bring important developments to the attention to our Members and visitors. Here are just a few…

…we posted notes to encourage people to re-register for the Forums after our transition to our new (faster and better!) hosting site.

…we informed visitors and Members to make sure that their browser now refers to our new “https” SSL designation.

…we reminded members just before “Amazon Prime Day” to register for AmazonSmile if they intend to do some shopping on Amazon Prime day. We receive a small commission on each sale! Of course, visitors can use AmazonSmile for any Amazon purchase and help us a little bit on their purchases throughout the year, so please register!

…we launched a Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign, featuring a raffle for coffee mugs and t-shirts, and a Thank You note was subsequently posted on the website for all those who contributed to the $860 which was raised!
