can a sociopath be faithful?

Post by flowergirl »

my husband, who I think is one, seemed to be faithful. He said he had cheated on everyone except for me. He only went to work and came home, never went out. The thing he enjoyed was smoking pot and watching tv. Obsessed with tv and movies. He never 'went out'. So he could not have been cheating. All sites say they absolutely carry on other sexual relationships while with you. He told me 'why would I cheat when I have a beautiful wife'? So, question is; is it 'possible' that some of them can be monogamous. He said 'I didn't have to marry you, I'm not in my 20's or a sex addict. I lie about little things. Not big things" He did have a stealing problem. He could not walk into any store without taking things.

I think it is important to remember that everyone, including those exhibiting psychopathic traits or features, is different. When we examine the Hare Checklist, it is likely that we cannot check every trait for every individual psychopath. Each will likely have some and not others. There has been some research that suggests that many are "serial monogamists," indicating that some remain faithful for extended periods of time in some relationships. I think it is safe to say this is not a fact of hard science, but I have seen this first hand, for a time, at least. Also, I think it is important to remember that true psychopaths marry for a variety of reasons and are aware that they have to sustain "good behavior" for a period of time. Others may have some level of sexual dysfunction, even if not in the traditional sense, which would make conventional infidelity unappealing. There are a variety of answers to this question. However, by and large, most eventually, on some level, fail to be faithful.

This isn’t related to specifically to psychopaths. Because not all of them are sexually promiscuous. But if he has cheated on all of his previous partners I would be hesitant to believe he would behave differently with you. But it’s hard to be sure. Trust your gut.
